Visiting Adkins Arboretum
Located on the grounds of Tuckahoe State Park on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, the Adkins Arboretum is a 400-acre native garden and preservation area. The arboretum opened in 1980 with a donation from Leon Andrus, who named it for friends who were avid conservationists. Today, the arboretum is managed by the Friends of Adkins Arboretum and focuses on native plant species of the Delmarva Peninsula.
Special Features of Adkins Arboretum
- Native plants of the Mid-Atlantic coastal plain, planted along five miles of trails meandering through the gardens, meadows and mature hardwood forests.
- Native azaleas, mountain laurels and other native plants in their natural settings, as well as cultivated gardens.
- Interesting ecological rehabilitation projects.
