Welcome to Mid-Atlantic Gardener!
You’ve just found the only comprehensive source of information about upcoming gardening events in the Mid-Atlantic region, and free gardening resources from regional experts for residential gardeners.
I’m a lifelong gardener living in Arlington, Va., and on the beautiful Delaware coast. For years I’ve looked for an online resource about gardening events that I might like to attend and local gardening resources I need. Not finding such a resource, I decided to do the leg work and share what I find with my fellow Mid-Atlantic gardeners.
What will you find on my website?
Mid-Atlantic Gardener is the culmination of two years of researching and aggregating information into a calendar of gardening events in Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Washington, D.C.
You’ll find descriptions and schedules for special gardening exhibits and tours that are a day-trip’s distance, like Longwood Gardens and Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden. There are listings of lectures, conferences and events in the Washington, D.C., area, and even local gardening community workshops, classes, and plant sales. A wide variety of gardening events, in one place.
Another reason I started this website is to encourage more people to visit gardens and support the incredible wealth of public gardens in our region. I also provide links to resources from regional experts to spread the word about sustainable landscape practices and encourage more of people to adopt them.
I’m an active member of Master Gardeners of Northern Virginia through the Virginia Cooperative Extension at Virginia Tech, and a member of the Virginia Native Plant Society. I completed two certificate programs, in horticulture and landscape design, through the USDA Graduate School in Washington, D.C. And for the past six years, I’ve operated a thriving gardening and design business in Arlington, Va. I spend time in my garden almost every day. My garden helper, Cody, works hard but, as you can see, takes frequent breaks rolling in the grass.
Before changing careers to follow my passion for gardening, I received a master’s degree in marketing from Johns Hopkins University, served as a two-term council chair for the Arlington Chamber of Commerce, and I spent 20 years developing marketing strategies and plans for national nonprofit organizations in the Washington, D.C., market.
I’m hopeful you will find the information on Mid-Atlantic Gardener to be relevant, helpful, and user-friendly. I invite and welcome your feedback, and, like most bloggers and web managers, am always looking for sponsors and advertisers. Please contact me if you’d like to share any suggestions.
